Epargner, ça s'apprend !

I just discovered an excellent blog by a French Journalist, Séverine Leboucher. She has been nice enough to link to Savings Revolution, and it is a pleasure to return the favor - and, have something in French on this site. Séverine writes about her encounters with savings groups in Colombia.

She talks about how members of a children’s group learn real democracy - since their money is a stake, they don’t elect the officers on the basis of popularity, but on competence.

Another new group of 19 women is just beginning to borrow, and all are borrowing to get out of debt elsewhere - “It’s better that the interest stays here in the group - it’s a waste if it goes into other people’s pockets.”

She talks about the innovations of another group, one of which is to hold a lottery, with the prize that the winner can save an extra amount! And Séverine ends with the question, “And what if we did the same thing in France?”

The above is from her French Blog, but she also writes in English. Check it out!
